New Bethlehem Free Will Baptist Church was founded by Reverend James Stepney in July, 1948, at 1112 N. Gilmor Street. The other founding members were: Deacon William Holt, Sis. Gertrude Stepney, Sis. Maggie Lee, Sis. Viola Cook, Sis. Ida Troupe, and Sis. Annie Conaway. There were other concerned members as well. Sis. Annie Conaway was the first secretary of New Bethlehem, and Sis. Maggie Lee was the first treasurer and Mother of the church.
